Confidence scores
How confidence scores work and how to use them.
What are confidence scores?
Every extracted fact includes a confidence score between 0 and 1 that indicates how reliable the extraction is. A higher score means we are more sure that we read the rule correctly.
Score ranges
| Range | Meaning | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 0.90 - 1.00 | High confidence | Safe to use directly |
| 0.70 - 0.89 | Medium confidence | Generally reliable, verify for critical decisions |
| 0.50 - 0.69 | Low confidence | Manual review recommended |
| Below 0.50 | Very low | Should not be used without manual verification |
Factors affecting confidence
- Document quality — Scanned PDFs with poor resolution lower scores
- Language clarity — Ambiguous legal language reduces confidence
- Template variation — Unusual document formats may score lower
- Field complexity — Simple facts (yes/no) score higher than complex ones
Using confidence scores
Filter by minimum confidence when querying restrictions:
GET /v1/search/restrictions?min_confidence=0.8For critical applications (title searches, legal research), we recommend a minimum threshold of 0.85.
