Quick start
Make your first API call to Setback in under 5 minutes.
Prerequisites
- An Setback account with an API key
- A tool for making HTTP requests (curl, Postman, or your language's HTTP client)
Step 1: Get your API key
Log in to the Setback dashboard and navigate to Settings > API Keys. Create a new key and copy it — you won't be able to see it again.
Step 2: Make your first request
Search for restrictions on a parcel by its APN (Assessor's Parcel Number):
curl -X GET "https://api.setback.io/v1/parcels/118112024/restrictions?county=Franklin" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json"Step 3: Explore the response
The API returns structured restriction facts with confidence scores:
{
"data": [
{
"id": "fact_abc123",
"fact_type": "rental_restriction",
"fact_value": {
"restriction_type": "minimum_lease_term",

},

"page": 14,
"section": "Article VII, Section 3"
}
}
